1. Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Scrimps mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account, completing onboarding, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority in your region, you represent that you have parental or guardian consent.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.

3. Your Account

3.1 Registration

You must provide accurate information and keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.

You may sign in using email/password, Google, or Sign in with Apple where available.

3.2 Username and profile

  • Usernames must follow our formatting rules and must not impersonate others or include offensive content.
  • We may remove or require changes to usernames or profile content that violate these Terms.
  • Public profile information may be visible to other players as described in our Privacy Policy.

3.3 Account deletion

You may delete your account at any time through Settings → Delete Account in the app or on the web at https://scrimps.lovable.app/delete-account. Deletion is permanent and removes your account data as described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Virtual Currency and Items

4.1 Scrimp Cash ("SC")

Scrimp Cash is a virtual in-app currency with no real-world monetary value. SC:

  • Cannot be exchanged for cash or transferred to other users
  • Is not a stored-value instrument or cryptocurrency
  • May be earned through gameplay, missions, ads, and promotions
  • May be spent on in-app cosmetics and features

We may adjust earn rates, prices, and availability at any time.

4.2 Cosmetics and digital items

Avatar frames, profile backgrounds, name colors, badges, and other cosmetics are licensed to you for use within the Service only. You do not own these digital items outside the Service.

We may modify, retire, or rebalance cosmetics and shop offerings.

4.3 No real-money purchases (current version)

The current version of Scrimps does not offer in-app purchases for real money. If we add purchases in the future, additional terms will apply and will be disclosed before checkout.

5. Gameplay and Leaderboards

  • Scores, missions, chests, and rewards are determined by our server-side rules.
  • We may investigate and reverse rewards obtained through cheating, exploits, automation, or abuse.
  • Leaderboard rankings and rewards are subject to our settlement schedules and anti-fraud checks.
  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of any game mode, mission, or reward.

6. Advertisements

The Service may display rewarded video advertisements through third-party ad networks (currently Google AdMob). By watching ads for in-app rewards, you acknowledge that:

  • Ad availability is not guaranteed
  • Rewards are granted only after our servers verify a completed ad view
  • Ad networks may collect data as described in our Privacy Policy

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Cheat, exploit bugs, use bots, or manipulate game systems
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other players
  • Attempt unauthorized access to accounts, servers, or data
  • Reverse engineer or interfere with the Service
  • Use the Service for unlawful purposes
  • Circumvent security, rate limits, or moderation systems

We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations without refund of virtual items or currency.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, art, trademarks, and content (except third-party content such as OpenTDB trivia questions), is owned by ScrimpCo or its licensors. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial entertainment.

Trivia content from OpenTDB is used under CC BY-SA 4.0.

9. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates third-party services including Supabase, Google (authentication and advertising), Apple (Sign in with Apple), and push notification providers. Your use of those services may be subject to their terms and policies.

We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SCRIMPCO AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED USD $100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER (CURRENTLY $0 IF NO PAID FEATURES EXIST).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ScrimpCo from claims arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access at any time for violation of these Terms or for operational reasons.

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account as described in Section 3.3.

Sections that by nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute provisions) will survive.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and may require renewed acceptance for material changes. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory local consumer laws apply.
